School-Age Professionals

Licensing rules require two courses for program leaders in school-age child care programs. The courses are free and available below. Course requirements vary depending on how often a school-age program uses a public or private playground; see below. NOTE: School-age programs include day camps, summer camps, summer playground programs, before and after school programs and extended day programs.

Playground Safety for School-Age Programs	Program leaders in school-age programs that use a public or private playground at least once a week.
Injury Prevention for School-Age Programs that Regularly Use a Playground Prerequisite course: Playground Safety for School Age Programs (above)	Program leaders in school-age programs that use public or private playgrounds at least once a week.
Injury Prevention for Day Camp Programs that DO NOT Regularly Use a Playground	Program leaders in day camp programs that visit a public or private playground less than once a week.

When do the courses need to be completed?
Program leaders hired after October 1, 2018 should complete the courses before working with children.

Are there any other options to take this training?
The training "Quality Outdoor Learning Environments Webinar" through Clayton Early Learning also meets the playground safety training requirement. This course can be accessed at www.claytonearlylearning.org. Specific questions regarding the new rules may be directed to your licensing specialist.
