Overview

Our youngest learners are natural scientists. They crave opportunities for exploration and discovery.  However, did you know that many outdoor activities for infants and toddlers also promote critical physical development? In this 1.5 hour training, join us as we explore positive and engaging ways to support infant and toddler growth and development through outdoor settings. We will explore how to create a safe and welcoming outdoor space for young children and engage in hands-on activities you can take back to your program.

Objective
Upon completion, learner will be able to:
  • Identify at least one way they are currently engaging infants and toddlers.
  • Identify at least one reason why taking infants and toddlers outdoors promotes the physical development of children.
  • Identify one new method to engage infants and toddlers outdoors and how the activity supports physical development.
Competencies
This training aligns to Colorado's Competencies for Early Childhood Educators and Administrators.
  • Teaching Practices 7.1: Identifies a variety of equipment, learning opportunities, and experiences to promote the physical development of all children.

This training is available through Early Childhood Health Outdoors National Wildlife Federation (ECHO NWF). Participants must register through PDIS and through the ECHO NWF registration process. This course has been recognized as aligned to The Colorado Competencies and meeting best practice standards for adult instruction through the Colorado Shines PDIS Training Alignment Process. The Rules Regulating Child Care Facilities, issued by the Division of Early Care and Learning, Colorado Department of Human Services, take precedence over any course content.
