Upon completion, the learner will be able to:

• Describe the language development process in infants and toddlers and will be able to list two strategies to support language development.
• List and implement three activities to talk, read, sing, and/or play with infants and toddlers to support healthy language and literacy development.
• Briefly describe current research and its importance on early experiences, specifically around brain development.

Competencies

This training aligns to Colorado's Competencies for Early Childhood Educators and Administrators.

·         Teaching Practice 11.1: Identifies strategies that support children in communicating their thoughts and feelings both verbally and nonverbally in any language.

·         Teaching Practice 17.1: Identifies and participates in established developmentally appropriate daily learning opportunities to support language and literacy development.

·         Child Growth, Development, and Learning 4.1: Describes current research on the importance of early experiences in the development of the whole child, with particular emphasis on brain development.
