Overview
Cavity Free Kids™ training is an oral health professional development program for all early care and education or health teachers. This two hour Cavity Free Kids™ training includes a rich collection of lessons, activities, stories, songs, and other resources that actively engage young children in fun-filled, play-based learning, and helps parents and teachers practice good oral health habits. Lessons and activities can be adapted to the ages and developmental stages of the children in your care.

Target Audience
Infant-toddler staff, Early Childhood teachers and directors, Health educators

Recommendations
Participants will bring their own health knowledge and experiences to this session. The Cavity Free Kids™ training is designed to respect individuals' experiences while teaching them to look at oral health in new ways.

Fee

This training is offered at no cost to programs.
Objective

Upon completion, the learner will be able to:

  • name the five basics of oral health
  • develop an individualized action plan to easily incorporate Cavity Free Kids™ into your work with children and in your conversations with families
  • identify what causes cavities and be able to demonstrate three different activities with children and families to support cavity prevention within cultural preferences 

This training aligns to the Colorado's Competencies for Early Childhood Educators and Administrators:

  • Health, Safety, and Nutrition 8.1: Describes curriculum-based activities emphasizing the basics of nutrition, physical, and medical care.
  • Health, Safety, and Nutrition 8.2: Promotes and implements curriculum-based activities emphasizing the basics of nutrition, physical, and medical care.
  • Health, Safety, and Nutrition 15.1:  Identifies healthy and appropriate eating habits for children. Understands the role of culture in eating habits.

This course has been recognized as aligned to The Colorado Competencies and meeting best practice standards for adult instruction through the Colorado Shines PDIS Training Alignment Process. The Rules Regulating Child Care Facilities, issued by the Division of Early Care and Learning, Colorado Department of Human Services, take precedence over any course content.
